New Year, New Community

New Year, New Community

You have got to love the New Year.  It brings with it all the hopes and dreams of a new beginning and making more of life and living.  Many people like to focus their attention on creating goals of resolutions for the upcoming new year.  This is something that can be a great challenge in life, and many people find that it yields great reward when the goals are achieved.  These resolutions for the new year are not just for individuals to make alone though.  Leaders and those involved in the community should also be making plans, goals, and resolutions for the community where you live too.  Many communities make a decision to actively change when a new year comes about.  Here are some ways your community can become even better.

  • A Healthy Community – Let’s face it, it would not hurt for communities to become more active overall.  As a community make a goal to get people moving.  Sponsor events like 5K walk/runs, have free fitness classes one day a week at the community center and offer up some cheap ones throughout the week.  Make sure that there are ways for the citizens to get up and get moving so that everyone can be even just a little more healthy.
  • Support Buying Local – Thanks to those big box superstores, people end up buying all sorts of things from other countries instead of our own.  Local businesses are hurting right now, and it is up to communities to band together and support local business by buying locally.  It will not only help those in business in the community, but it will put money back into the area and be more environmentally friendly too.
  • Help Go Green – Walking and bike trails in the community can promote healthy and green commuting.  Make resolutions to add more trees to a local park or encourage people to leave the cars in their driveways more often.  Little changes can lead to big results.
