There is quite an interesting history to marijuana in America, dating back to 1545 when the Spanish brought marijuana to America. The English brought marijuana to Jamestown in 1611. It became a huge commercial crop alongside tobacco. From 1850 to 1942, marijuana was listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia as a prescription for rheumatism, labor pains, and nausea. It was also used as an intoxicant by many people from the 1850s to the 1930s. By 1890, marijuana had been replaced by cotton as a major cash crop. There was a small percentage of medicines that had marijuana in it, compared to the large number that had much more dangerous drugs in it, such as cocaine. In the 1930s, the U.S Federal Bureau of Narcotics launched a campaign to show marijuana as a strong and addicting substance that would lead users to other, harder drugs such as cocaine and opium. The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 classified marijuana as a Schedule I drug, along with heroin and LSD.

The Mexican government agreed to get rid of marijuana by spraying it with chemicals, which raised fears of toxic side effects. This then led to the war on drugs, which started happening during the Reagan and Bush administrations to fight off smugglers from Colombia, and to fight marijuana farms in the United States. Marijuana smoking started to become more popular in the early 1990s. With it’s increased popularity, marijuana led to the opening of many smoke shops. Smoke shops are stores in the United States that sell smoking devices, such as pipes, water pipes, and many more. There are also products such as grinders, lighters, and other smoking accessories. At a lot of smoke shops, there is also clothing apparel. With the increase popularity of the internet and internet marketing, a lot of smoke shops have moved online. One amazing online smoke shop is Flowland. It features a lot of smoking accessories, such as pipes, water pipes, lighters, grinders, cleaning solutions, and clothing apparel. In order to get the best products, visit flowland.net to get exactly what you want and need.

You have got to love the New Year. It brings with it all the hopes and dreams of a new beginning and making more of life and living. Many people like to focus their attention on creating goals of resolutions for the upcoming new year. This is something that can be a great challenge in life, and many people find that it yields great reward when the goals are achieved. These resolutions for the new year are not just for individuals to make alone though. Leaders and those involved in the community should also be making plans, goals, and resolutions for the community where you live too. Many communities make a decision to actively change when a new year comes about. Here are some ways your community can become even better.

A Healthy Community – Let’s face it, it would not hurt for communities to become more active overall. As a community make a goal to get people moving. Sponsor events like 5K walk/runs, have free fitness classes one day a week at the community center and offer up some cheap ones throughout the week. Make sure that there are ways for the citizens to get up and get moving so that everyone can be even just a little more healthy.

Support Buying Local – Thanks to those big box superstores, people end up buying all sorts of things from other countries instead of our own. Local businesses are hurting right now, and it is up to communities to band together and support local business by buying locally. It will not only help those in business in the community, but it will put money back into the area and be more environmentally friendly too.

Help Go Green – Walking and bike trails in the community can promote healthy and green commuting. Make resolutions to add more trees to a local park or encourage people to leave the cars in their driveways more often. Little changes can lead to big results.

Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that to keep our businesses running we need to patronize those places. Of course there are those friends or family members that we are compelled to buy gifts for and I’m not so out of touch with reality or unrealistic to understand this. Although being responsible and realistic about the presents given and to whom this year can and will affect you throughout the coming year and possible years long after the holidays have past once more. Make yourself a list of friends and family you feel compelled to gift. Then study your finances and come up with a budget and STICK TO IT! There are downloadable apps for your phones or computers to help keep you on track, some even alerting you of the things on your wish list, as they go on sale. If you see your list of people you wish to buy for has overridden your budget, don’t up the budget, downsize the gift list! Reevaluate your list and instead of buying individual gifts for your sister, brother-in-law and their three kids, find a board game that they can share as a family, or only purchase items for the children. I’m sure your sister won’t think less of you! If you have a large family of sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts, draw names this year when you’re all together and each person is responsible for one gift and everyone gets a gift! Instead of buying store bought items for your colleagues, children’s teachers and babysitters, bake some homemade cookies or jellies and present them in pretty packaging and beautiful jars with ribbons! I guess what I’m suggesting isn’t anything new or things that we haven’t heard before, but I hope what will be new are the DOING part! Take the pressure off of yourselves and friends and family. Be the leader and not the follower, start a new tradition and I guarantee your heart and lives will be so much more full than any of the other “traditions” of the past! And remember, if the only gift you ever give in your entire life is saying, “thank you”, it will be enough.

Before we start to talk about new traditions that you might want to try this year, lets look at what the meaning of a tradition really is. Everywhere you look you see the word “tradition”. There are traditional houses that are filled with wooden pieces of furniture that have elegant details. There are traditional pieces of clothing that have a number of styles, shapes, fabrics, and colors. There are traditional recipes for almost everything that you can imagine from thanksgiving meals to chocolate chip cookies. And there are even traditional stores. With all this talk about tradition, do you really know what the word means? By dictionary definition a tradition is the handing doqn of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information and more from generation to generation by word of mouth or by practice.

As the holidays are fast approaching, it’s sometimes easier than not to get caught up in the feasting, shopping, gifting, traveling, wrapping, running, parties, ect… That being said, of course it’s nothing new. It’s just that time of year again and part of the holiday’s right? That is the tradition after all! But this year can and is different whether we want to admit it or not. Between the unemployment rate and the economy, it’s time to take a step back and reevaluate those things we deem important and as tradition. If we open our eyes and our hearts and take a look around our neighborhoods, workplace and schools, we will see the truth, although unpleasant as it may be. Our friends, colleagues and neighbors are in trouble. Educated friends and family are unemployed; healthcare that is necessary cannot be attained because of the cost. Divorce rates continue to soar due in part to the financial stresses, leading to angry and confused children wondering if they played a part in their now broken homes and in return reflecting in the schools, via grades and or behavior. We need to realize the wisdom in the fact that “Catching up is so much more important than keeping up!” Be the change you want to see in the world! It’s okay to celebrate with friends and family this holiday season, but how about addressing your invitations this year to read, “Your presence is your present.”

With the holidays coming up everyone is starting to get ready early. Although it’s months away Christmas planning is always started earlier than any other kind of event. Planning a Community Christmas Event can be a challenge, but has a large reward!

You may have thought about planning a Christmas event for your community but didn’t know what to do or even where to start. If you are thinking about putting an event together the first thing to consider is number of guests and the location in which you want it to be held.

Once you know where the event will be and who will be attending you can start thinking about what you want to happen at the event. If you are wanting a formal event with many people, you can go one route. But, if you are thinking a smaller more personal event then you can take another route to accomplishing the best event that you can possibly can have.

A formal event is always a treat for you and your fellow community members. For most people dressing up and going out isn’t a frequent thing, so having a formal Christmas event is an exciting change of pace. When you are planning a formal Christmas event there are a number of extra steps that are needed to pull off the perfect night. Once you have the location you can think about the decorations you are going to use to make the space feel just right. The decorations should have a warm and homey feeling that says you are a community, but at the same time they should have a crisp and elegant feel to them. Christmas is one of the most fun holidays to decorate for; the spinning candy canes and colorful Christmas trees make decorations the most fun task of all. The next most important thing to get ready for your Community Christmas event is food. You can either have a formal meal or you can have a variety of finger foods, so that everyone will find something that they like. If you are planning an event for a lot of people hiring a caters is a good idea. If you are having a smaller event, home cooked foods bring a personal feel to the event.

Now that you have the 4 important steps conquered for your event you can get into the details. You will need a lot of people to help you with your event for various jobs like coat check, valet, serving drinks, babysitting for those that have little ones and many other things that are key to the success of your event. If you have been thinking about taking the plunge and attempting to have a community Christmas event, dive right in! You are sure to have a sack full of memories and maybe even start a new tradition for your community.

Creating a more environment friendly way to grow your food is something that everyone should invest a little bit of time and money in. For those that are looking for some way to go green, this is perfect for you! When you are looking for something specifically for your family or something that the whole community can get involved in.

What am I talking about that is such a great way to help? I’m talking about a backyard garden. A backyard garden is a great way to grow fresh and pesticide free foods for you and your neighbors. This infographic shows how much space you need for each part of your daily diet. This might be taking your backyard garden to a bit of an extreme but the idea of creating a garden is a great one. Some families might want to have their own garden and share the fruits of their labor with the neighbors while other communities might want to take an approach that allows a garden that everyone can help tend and pick the garden. Sharing the responsibility makes it easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

Check out what you need to create a backyard garden that will fill all of your food needs!

Have you ever heard of a community manager? I hadn’t until I found this infographic that told what they do and how they work. I thought it was really cool and wanted to share it with you.

Community managers are people who keep the community running smoothly. They are the ones that are hosting parties, getting the children on and off of buses and are captains of the neighborhood watch comity. These hardworking people dedicate a lot of time in supporting their neighbors. Many of these people have jobs and children, so taking on this added responsibility of managing their community is an act that should be greatly appreciated.

The kind of people that preform these jobs bring a new level to the word devotion. Many of them are the kind of people that are always looking for someway to help out a fellow neighbor. These people do everything that they can to help everyone in the community and cheer on everyone in all the things that they do but at the same time they stand up for the rules are aren’t afraid to step into a situation and take charge if need be. I would love to be a community manager. I think that I have many of the attributes that are expressed in a community manager. That would be a responsibility that I would greatly enjoy doing.

Today everyone wants to go to college and achieve a better education. If you don’t have a college degree in something, you have a much smaller chance of getting a good paying job. Many employers are requiring a minimum amount of education to be reached for someone to be hired.

If y0u want to have get a higher education but can’t afford it, don’t want to move away from home, or have a job and family go to a community college. Community colleges provide personal instruction, so you are an individual not one of three hundred people staring blankly at the professor. For those that need a little bit more help understanding things community colleges are a great route to take in getting your degree.

If you are not quite ready to leave home and be on your own for various reasons you can attend a community college until you are ready to leave the nest and transfer all of your credits to a university. A community college is a good way to get your grades and GPA built up before you apply for college. If you were the one who was always goofing off in high school and didn’t get into the college of your dreams, go to a community college for a couple of years and get serious. Once you have buckled down on your work and future, reapply to the college you intended to go to from high school.

Community college isn’t just for those who didn’t do well in high school or want to transfer to another place. Classes at a community college are more affordable. If you are paying for your own schooling or didn’t get a scholarship community colleges are a great alternative.

If you think that community college is just for college aged people, you are mistaken. Community college is a great place for working adults to get a further education. Community colleges offer night classes for people that work full time during the day. They also offer daytime classes, most starting at 8am. To make community college even more convenient they also offer online classes. This means that you can take your class whenever you have time as long as you meet the deadlines for assignments. Unlike most online classes, these classes allow you to have a personal relationship with your teacher. If you are struggling with figuring things out online, many teachers will meet you at the community college and help you work through your problems. The only time you are required to be in a class is when you take your final exam. All online finals are written tests that you have to take with a proctor at the college.

If you are ready to take the next step towards getting a better education and future, look into a local community college. Who knew it could be so easy? All you have to do it drive to school and go back home at the end of the day. Good Luck!

The streets are crowded with people, everyone is moving in different directions. Some are running, some are walking. Some are selling shirts, drinks, food, toys, anything that you can think of. Where are you? A race for the cause of course!

Communities are brought together by helping a cause. Many times they are set up in a relay, where you can walk for the cure. The way that these events work to raise money is there is a registration fee for you to join the walk. Once you do that you can choose to donate money, purchase things in honor or memory, or buy things just as clothes, food etc. For most causes that you walk a distance in it’s your job to go out into your community and get other people involved. For those who aren’t able to walk along side you, look for people who will donate a certain amount of money for every mile or hour that you walk. Other people might want to give you a set amount once you complete the walk or run.

When you are involved in an event like this it’s important to get the whole community involved. Even for those who don’t want to walk they can come out and help in another way like serving food, drinks, registering people and a number of other jobs that can easily be managed. Events like Relay for Life is a way that you can show your support for those people who have lost loved ones, or have battled cancer themselves. Being there and coming together as a community to help end something that caused pain to your neighbors is an amazing act of kindness.

Don’t wait for someone else to step up and start planning an event in you community. Take the initiative and begin planning an event in your community. Find a group of people that will help you in supporting your cause. Almost every major organization that is established for helping people will be glad to assist you in your planning and preparation. Although traditions and stories have been passed down for many years and connect generations. Folk tale lessons are passed down through generations, as a baton is passed in a track event.

The oldest method of communicating information is through song, and folk tale. A folk tale is a story that has been passed down through many communities and is used to explain a life lesson. For those that are lucky enough to have a first hand experience of being told an old folk tale it was most likely told to them by a wise older person and the trend continues down to you.

Before everyone was disconnected and had houses all across town the communities were brought together by stories and celebration. Everyone is a community would come together to hear the stories of their past generations. Folk tales are easily remembered and used to teach young people the ways of the past. Many folk tales are not based on true events, but are used to teach a life lesson. Folk tales primarily are use characters that teach a lesson the hard way.

Pinokio is a well known example of a folk tale. Many children can recall this story in the event of lying to their parents. They nervously await to see if their nose will truly grow as Pinokio’s did. Other stories such as Paul Bunyan show the hard working spirit of a man and the great things he can accomplish through his work. The story of St. Nicholas is probably the most famous story of all. The story of Santa Clause has spread around the world, migrating to all 7 continents. The life lesson that this folk tale shares is the coming together of the community during the Christmas time. This story also teaches children starting at a very young age that your actions will determine if you have a positive or negative outcome. Numerous people have been told “if you aren’t good Santa will put coal in your stocking for Christmas”.

Folk tales are a way to pass down traditions as well as lessons to the younger generations.
The global community grows stronger by bringing strangers together who have been taught the same lessons through folk tales. People who live on opposite sides of the earth could have a very similar experience when they are passed the baton of wisdom.
